Flawless Hair Every Day: Your Guide to Salon-Worthy Maintenance

Beautiful hair never stops when you leave the salon over here! The key to keeping your hair looking and feeling its best is the consistent care and products used in between appointments. With your new look, following the right maintenance routine is ESSENTIAL to preserve your hair’s health and your investment. So use these tips to help you maintain flawless hair at home.

Daily Care Tips

Incorporating simple habits into your daily routine can go a long way in preserving your hair’s health. Here are a few easy tips:

  • Silk Protection: Swap your cotton pillowcases for a silk ones, loose those tight hair ties and replace them with scrunchies. Use a bonnet, sleep braids or a heatless curler to reduce friction, preserve your style, and prevent breakage and frizz overnight.

  • Heat Styling: Minimize heat styling as much as possible, and always use a heat protectant if you do. My personal rule of thumb is one heat session per shampoo. You’ll rarely see me do any touch-ups! I just opt into different styling options to stretch my blowouts.

  • Brushing Gently: Use your extension brush and handle your hair gently when detangling to avoid unnecessary breakage. Start at the ends and work your way up, earning your rights to the roots. If you encounter a snag, pause and reset—start brushing below the tangle to safely release the knots without causing damage.

  • Use Stylist Approved Products: Make sure to use products recommended by your stylists to protect both your natural hair and your extensions. These products won’t strip your hair’s natural oils and color or cause the extensions to deteriorate. This is key to protecting your investment.

  • Drying Properly: Always encourage a smooth end result with constant finger detangling/brushing and stroking the hair when applying products. Avoid rubbing your hair and extensions when drying. Instead, gently pat hair with a towel, detangle, and allow them to air dry, or use a blow dryer with a concentrator or diffuser on a low or med heat setting.

Healthy Hair & Scalp Habits

Keeping your hair and scalp clean while keeping color vibrant requires a little TLC:

  • Sulfate-Free Cleansing: Use shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for color-treated hair to maintain your color’s vibrancy and shine.

  • Avoid Over-Washing: Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils and cause color to fade more quickly. Try to limit washing to 2 times per week, or once every 7-10 days with extensions, or use a dry shampoo between washes.

  • Touch-Ups: To maintain vibrant color and prevent banding, it’s essential to schedule touch-ups as needed. A good rule of thumb is to book your color refresh every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth and the type of color treatment you’ve received.

A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy, beautiful hair. Here are a few tips to nourish your scalp:

  • Exfoliate Regularly: Scalp exfoliation helps remove buildup and promotes a healthy environment for hair growth. Routinely clarify to reset your scalp and rid it of any dead skin cells and product build up.

  • Hydrate: Keep your scalp hydrated by using nourishing oils or scalp treatments that promote moisture and blood circulation. And don’t forget to drink lot of WATER! Hair growth starts from within!

  • Promote Hair Growth: Consider using treatments that stimulate hair growth, such as scalp massages or serums designed to strengthen hair follicles.
